Korean Midland Power Corporation Ltd. (Komipo) has ordered a two-stroke MAN B&W 12K80MC-S engine from MAN Diesel’s Korean licensee, Doosan Engine, in connection with the expansion of their power plant on Cheju Island, Korea. The engine is identical to that installed previously at the plant by Doosan Engine in 2005, and will develop 41.3 MW at 109.1 rpm with a site efficiency of 49.5%.
In order to fulfill the local, stringent, emission-legislation, the new engine will, as does the existing one, employ SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), FGD (Flue Gas Desulphurisation) and an ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator). The engine will be ready for delivery in just twelve months, taking the total amount of MAN B&W two-stroke, low-speed, diesel power installed on Cheju Island to almost 130 MW.
